SUSTAINABLE KPM PORCELAIN

WE HAVE ALWAYS COMMITTED OURSELVES AND OUR PRODUCTION AT OUR HISTORIC MANUFACTURING SITE TO SUSTAINABILITY WITH ECOLOGICALLY, ECONOMICALLY AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE VALUES.

BUT JUST HOW SUSTAINABLE IS KPM PORCELAIN?

SUSTAINABILITY IN THE HEART OF BERLIN

The "white gold" of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin is made exclusively in Berlin from three natural raw materials - kaolin, feldspar and quartz - according to a secret recipe. Sustainability is part of our brand DNA. Our raw materials come from European mining areas, so that we can dispense with long production and delivery routes.

HANDPICKED THROUGH GENERATIONS

Before a product receives the trademark, the cobalt blue sceptre, it has to undergo numerous work processes and strict quality controls. For example, 25 people work on a white coffee cup for a total of 14 days. The cup is produced in 29 steps and sorted ten times by hand.

OUR ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT

To keep our ecological footprint as small as possible, we cooperate with parcel service provider DHL and energy supplier Vattenfall. This means that all shipments leaving the manufactory are CO₂-neutral. We offset the greenhouse gas emissions caused by transportation and logistics with the help of climate protection projects.

OUR RAW MATERIALS

When manufacturing our products, it is particularly important to us to treat nature with care. Sustainability is not a trendy topic for us, it is part of our brand DNA. The raw materials we use come from European mining areas, so we can avoid long production and delivery routes.

OUR COLORS

The color pigments used to decorate the porcelain pieces in our master painting studio are mixed with natural oils. Experienced master painters mix powdery colour pigments with natural oils such as lavender, aniseed and orange to create detailed flower paintings, landscapes, vedutas and individualizations and bring to life an aromatic composition of fragrances that will make your senses wander.

4 SUSTAINABILITY FACTS OF KPM BERLIN

Production with an eye on the environment

Heat is generated during production - KPM Berlin knows how to use it: In cooperation with Vattenfall, the waste heat from production is fed into the Berlin district heating network. This provides up to 150,000 hot Berlin showers a year!

Forms for eternity

Around 150,000 designs from the manufactory's history are stored, protected - and used - in our mold archive. The famous classicist KURLAND shape, for example, dates back to 1790 - and is still one of our most popular series. This results in a lifetime guarantee of repeat purchases.

From Yesterday Forever

All products are durable on two levels: extremely robust thanks to multiple firings and up to 10-fold quality assurance. There are no seasonal goods - all products are available from the launch date - with a lifelong re-purchase guarantee.

Sustainable porcelain in Berlin

The passing on of know-how from generation to generation plays a decisive role in the sustainability of the porcelain and ensures that KPM Berlin has now been impressing customers with the highest quality and impeccable craftsmanship for over 260 years.

PERSONALIZE YOUR SUSTAINABLE KPM PORCELAIN

BYE, BYE PLASTIC ...

Porcelain tableware has a far better balance sheet in terms of water and resource consumption, climate change and health than disposable cups and even high-grade plastic variants. It has been shown that a porcelain cup has a better environmental balance from the tenth use onwards. Porcelain is also ahead in terms of composition. Porcelain is made exclusively from a small amount of natural raw materials and without chemical additives, so it does not place any additional burden on the environment.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY THROUGH THE DAY

Every day, 7.6 million disposable plastic cups are thrown away in Germany - after only around 15 minutes of use*. With the KURLAND To-go porcelain mug, KPM Berlin offers an environmentally friendly and stylish alternative for every day - handmade in Berlin. Each individual cup replaces a large number of disposable cups and thus makes a visible contribution to reducing disposable waste.

TO GO, PLEASE!

With the new set of KURLAND To-go Box and To-go cup , breakfast, lunch and dinner can now be transported in style. Ideal for take-away during the lunch break or a quick after-work snack.

Designed by KPM head designer Thomas Wenzel, who also designed the iconic To-go cup , the box now also shows that the classicist KURLAND relief made of cloth hangings, egg sticks and pearls is a timeless classic - naturally made by hand at the historic manufactory site in Berlin-Tiergarten.

FEWER CAPSULES FILTER MORE

The history of the filter goes back about as long as the history of the porcelain manufactory itself. So it's no wonder that KPM Berlin has developed a porcelain coffee filter that gains its aesthetics from its function: it is double-walled and reduces temperature loss during filtering thanks to its thermal effect.

I DON'T CARE ABOUT PLASTIC!

Goodbye plastic! The production of disposable tableware, together with disposable cutlery and to-go packaging, consumes over 105,500 tons of plastic across Germany every year.* So why not simply swap it for a classy version of the bowl Currywurst at your local snack bar?
