SUSTAINABLE KPM PORCELAIN

WE HAVE ALWAYS COMMITTED OURSELVES AND OUR PRODUCTION AT OUR HISTORIC MANUFACTURING SITE TO SUSTAINABILITY WITH ECOLOGICALLY, ECONOMICALLY AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE VALUES.

BUT JUST HOW SUSTAINABLE IS KPM PORCELAIN?

SUSTAINABILITY IN THE HEART OF BERLIN

The "white gold" of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin is made exclusively in Berlin from three natural raw materials - kaolin, feldspar and quartz - according to a secret recipe. Sustainability is part of our brand DNA. Our raw materials come from European mining areas, so that we can dispense with long production and delivery routes.

HANDPICKED THROUGH GENERATIONS

Before a product receives the trademark, the cobalt blue sceptre, it has to undergo numerous work processes and strict quality controls. For example, 25 people work on a white coffee cup for a total of 14 days. The cup is produced in 29 steps and sorted ten times by hand.

OUR ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT

To keep our ecological footprint as small as possible, we cooperate with parcel service provider DHL and energy supplier Vattenfall. This means that all shipments leaving the manufactory are CO₂-neutral. We offset the greenhouse gas emissions caused by transportation and logistics with the help of climate protection projects.

OUR RAW MATERIALS

When manufacturing our products, it is particularly important to us to treat nature with care. Sustainability is not a trendy topic for us, it is part of our brand DNA. The raw materials we use come from European mining areas, so we can avoid long production and delivery routes.

OUR COLORS

The color pigments used to decorate the porcelain pieces in our master painting studio are mixed with natural oils. Experienced master painters mix powdery colour pigments with natural oils such as lavender, aniseed and orange to create detailed flower paintings, landscapes, vedutas and individualizations and bring to life an aromatic composition of fragrances that will make your senses wander.

Production with an eye on the environment

Heat is generated during production—and KPM Berlin knows how to put it to good use: in cooperation with BEW, waste heat from production is fed into Berlin's district heating network. This provides up to 150,000 hot showers in Berlin every year!

Forms for eternity

Our mold archive houses, preserves—and utilizes—approximately 150,000 designs from the company’s history. The famous neoclassical KURLAND mold, for example, dates back to 1790—and it remains one of our most popular series to this day. This ensures a lifetime guarantee of continued availability.

PERSONALIZE YOUR SUSTAINABLE KPM PORCELAIN

BYE, BYE PLASTIC ...

Porcelain tableware has a far better balance sheet in terms of water and resource consumption, climate change and health than disposable cups and even high-grade plastic variants. It has been shown that a porcelain cup has a better environmental balance from the tenth use onwards. Porcelain is also ahead in terms of composition. Porcelain is made exclusively from a small amount of natural raw materials and without chemical additives, so it does not place any additional burden on the environment.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY THROUGH THE DAY

Every day in Germany, 7.6 million disposable plastic cups are thrown away—after only about 15 minutes of use*. With the KURLAND To-go porcelain cup, KPM Berlin offers an eco-friendly and stylish alternative for everyday use— Handmade in Berlin. Each one replaces a large number of disposable cups, thereby making a tangible contribution to reducing single-use waste.

TO GO, PLEASE!

With the new set featuring the KURLAND To-go Box and To-go cup now carry your breakfast, lunch, and dinner in style. Ideal for takeout during your lunch break or a quick after-work snack.

Designed by KPM Chief Designer Thomas Wenzel, who also cup the iconic to-go cup , the box now demonstrates that the classicist KURLAND relief—featuring drapery, egg-and-dart moldings, and pearls—is a timeless classic—handcrafted, of course, at the historic manufactory in Berlin-Tiergarten.

FEWER CAPSULES FILTER MORE

The history of the filter goes back about as long as the history of the porcelain manufactory itself. So it's no wonder that KPM Berlin has developed a porcelain coffee filter that gains its aesthetics from its function: it is double-walled and reduces temperature loss during filtering thanks to its thermal effect.
