History

Client: Peter von Biron, Duke of Kurland Year: 1790 Material: Porcelain

Commissioned by Peter von Biron, Duke of Kurland, a series in strict classical form, following the new aesthetic, was created in Berlin around 1790, which was to become an icon of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin: KURLAND. Its form is a tribute to the ideals and design of the ancient world. Objectivity, austerity and symmetry combine to create a noble, self-contained and timeless form – probably the most important porcelain collection of Classicism.

Product description

Now the sun is rising! Just in time for spring, KPM Berlin is launching the Heritage Édition Maréchal Niel, five products handmade at the Tiergarten in the same guise - a delicate yellow rose decoration sprouts on the KURLAND To-Go cup, the Cadre vases 0, 1 and 2 and the Vide Poche. The rose, named after the French Marshall Niel, was one of Empress Auguste Victoria's favorite flowers - her later husband Prince Wilhelm of Prussia wooed her with the rose. It also appears again and again in portraits of the empress. As patron of the Society of Friends of Roses, Auguste Victoria was one of the special lovers of this type of flower.

Reason enough for KPM-Meistermalerei to transfer the rose onto porcelain with fine brushstrokes. The interplay between the rose painting and details in 24-carat polished gold lends the edition a fresh elegance. The KURLAND To-Go cup Édition Maréchal Niel comes in a limited edition of 100 pieces and is individually numbered.

The cup comes with a white KPM To-Go lid and sleeve and a white KPM To-Go carrier. Both accessories are made of leather and make the To-Go cup from the Heritage Édition Maréchal Niel a special companion.
