Commissioned by Peter von Biron, Duke of Kurland, a series in strict classical form, following the new aesthetic, was created in Berlin around 1790, which was to become an icon of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin: KURLAND. Its form is a tribute to the ideals and design of the ancient world. Objectivity, austerity and symmetry combine to create a noble, self-contained and timeless form – probably the most important porcelain collection of Classicism.

Colorful parrot studies from the KPM archive, designed by master painters of earlier generations, on Plates and Mugs from the KURLAND collection, adorn this year's Heritage Edition Parrot Birds.
With great virtuosity and loose brushstrokes, the master painters of the Königlichen Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin breathe fascinating life into four colorful feathered companions. Scarlet macaw, green-winged macaw, sulphur-crested cockatoo, and rainbow lorikeet frolic on classics from the KURLAND collection and captivate without a doubt with the magnificence of nature. The inspiration came from gouaches that porcelain painters created based on the graphic templates of an ornithological work and have been preserved in the KPM archive to this day. In keeping with the tradition of 18th-century porcelain painting, the repertoire of motifs in the Königlichen Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin included not only floral compositions, landscapes, and figural scenes, but also impressive animal depictions. The KURLAND Heritage Edition Parrots presents a unique selection of special bird illustrations, sometimes sitting individually on a branch or as a section of the original drawing, and underscores the multifaceted attention to detail of KPM master painting.
In the swarm, the four colorful companions come together again in a five-part wall Plates set. Limited to a total of 100 sets, which are exclusively reserved for members of the WEISS customer club, the scarlet macaw, green-winged macaw, yellow-crested cockatoo and rainbow lorikeet, sometimes sitting individually on a branch, or as an excerpt from the original drawing, emphasize the multifaceted attention to detail of KPM master painting.
