SPECIAL EDITION LIMITED TO 65 PIECES TO MARK THE 65TH BIRTHDAY OF THE SANDMAN

On November 22, 2024, "Unser Sandmännchen" will celebrate its 65th birthday. The cult figure with the red pointed cap, designed by Gerhard Behrendt, has been flickering on television screens since 1959 and is still part of a fixed evening ritual for many families an integral part of their evening ritual. This makes the Sandmännchen oldest program in children's television that is still in production.

To mark this anniversary, KPM Berlin teamed up with rbb media to create a special edition of the Sandman, limited to 65 pieces. The result: a contemporary, handmade porcelain adaptation with the unmistakable goatee beard, designed by KPM's chief designer Thomas Wenzel, hand-painted in our master painting studio with 24-karat shiny gold and numbered individually by hand.

KPM Berlin and the Sandmännchen the same values: both draw on traditional craftsmanship. Like KPM Berlin porcelain, which has been handmade in our factory in Berlin's Tiergarten district for 260 years , the Sandmännchen is also Sandmännchen – from the figure and set design to the stop-motion animation. The figure thus embodies the perfect symbiosis of two renowned Berlin cultural assets. Good night!
