Designer Gisbert Pöppler immerses Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain’s “ aviator cup ” in the four vibrant hues of Jaune, Rouge, Bleu, and Vert, which are contrasted by borders in bright orange. The master painters at KPM Berlin apply these rich hues by hand to the “ coffee cup ” using a labor-intensive process.
Originally conceived in 1930 as a design study, the “ aviator cup ” embodied the spirit of New Objectivity—a minimalist, functional design language that has lost none of its clarity and elegance to this day. Characteristic of the design is the interplay of form and function: The cup’s striking base ring and the precise recess in the saucer merge into a harmonious whole that combines stability with design elegance.
Gisbert Pöppler, known for his keen sense of space, proportion, and color, brings his signature style to the porcelain. The carefully composed tones lend the functional form a sense of lightness and allow it to shine in a new light.
Each cup is limited to 100 pieces.
