In July 2022, the KPM Foundation’s first major project began with the arrival in Berlin of the tile mural “Germania—Protector of Art and Science.” After nearly 130 years, the artwork returned to the manufactory—it had been sent to the World’s Collage in Chicago in 1893. Over the past four years, 1,054 tiles have been meticulously cleaned, and the majority of them have been professionally restored. At the same time, a team of internal and external experts conducted research into the fascinating background of the mosaic. The publication not only provides a comprehensive overview of the artwork’s eventful history but also presents the findings of the research conducted over the past four years, as well as detailed documentation of the project.
