The shoebill owes its name to the shape of its beak, which appears not only exceptionally long but also particularly wide and deep. This unique feature of the African marsh bird was immortalized in porcelain in 1994 by Marek Lipowski at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin.
The plumage, rendered in light shades of blue, was faithfully recreated in detail by the painters at the Berlin manufactory. In addition to this version, the shoebill is also available in white.
