Our Sandmännchen much more than just a TV character—he is a national cultural treasure that has accompanied generations: As early as 1961, not only did the first human, Yuri Gagarin, fly Sandmännchen space, but so did the Sandmännchen . In the years that followed, the Sandmännchen traveled through space time and again Sandmännchen his imaginative rockets, visited space stations, and piloted his lunar rover—spectacular for its time—across the barren surface of the Moon. Inspired by this boundless curiosity, KPM Berlin, in collaboration with rbb media, is launching the exclusive Platinum Edition, strictly limited to 66 pieces.
The modern interpretation of the iconic Sandman, created by Gerhard Behrendt in 1959 for East German television, was redesigned by KPM chief designer Thomas Wenzel for its 65th birthday and combines traditional craftsmanship with nostalgic charm. Each individual Sandman is handmade in our factory in Tiergarten, hand-painted with glossy platinum in the master painting studio of KPM Berlin, and individually numbered by hand. The perfect combination of two renowned Berlin cultural treasures.
