The Royal Porcelain Manufactory and the Berlin City Palace have a common history. The palace has always served as the Hohenzollerns' main residence. Frederick the Great was born in the Berlin City Palace in 1712. He himself founded the Berlin porcelain manufactory KPM in 1763, and the two institutions are also linked: Karl Frederick Schinkel designed parts of the Berlin Palace as well as various designs for the capital's manufactory.
