The sun is rising! Just in time for spring, the KPM Berlin is launching the Heritage Édition Maréchal Niel—five products handcrafted at the Tiergarten, all featuring the same design: a delicate yellow rose motif blooms on the KURLAND To-Go cup, the Cadre vases 0, 1, and 2, and the Vide Poche. The rose, named after the French Marshal Niel, was one of Empress Auguste Victoria’s favorite flowers—her future husband, Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, wooed her with this rose. It also appears repeatedly in portraits of the empress. As patroness of the Society of Rose Lovers, Auguste Victoria was a devoted admirer of this genus of flowers. Reason enough for KPM’s master painters to transfer the rose onto porcelain with delicate brushstrokes. The interplay between the rose painting and details in 24-karat polished gold lends the edition a fresh elegance. The “ Cadre . 2 Édition Maréchal Niel” is available in a limited edition of 50 pieces, each individually numbered.

The “ Cadre ” vase is the last design Trude Petri developed for the “ KPM Berlin ”; its entry in the design book from 1967 is still listed under the name “Vase Tee.” This is because the “ Cadre ” design was originally developed after 1945 as a tea canister with a lid for the URBINO tableware set. Starting in 1984, the vase was referred to as “Quadre” in reference to its shape; today, it is simply called “Cadre.”
