Berlin loves design—and good coffee. The limited-edition “Herr Ober” brings together two Berlin institutions— Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin (KPM) and Einstein Kaffee—to show how beautiful design can make everyday life more sustainable—without being preachy.
The handcrafted porcelain mug from the KPM factory in Tiergarten combines classic Berlin craftsmanship with modern flair. French illustrator César Debargue has adorned the iconic KURLANDcup with a tongue-in-cheek motif: a bustling waiter carrying a steaming cup of coffee in the KURLAND cup rushes across the pristine white of the porcelain—a tribute to the capital’s coffee culture.
Berlin isn’t just creative—it’s also environmentally conscious: Every year, nearly three billion disposable cups end up in the trash in Germany. The “Herr Ober”cup aims to beautify the cityscape—through its elegant design and by reducing waste. Those who use it not only cut down on disposable cups but are also rewarded with a 20% discount on all coffee drinks at Einstein Kaffee through the end of 2026.
This collaboration shows what sustainable thinking can look like in Berlin: stylish, humorous, and deeply rooted in the local community. In this way, the porcelain mug becomes not only a daily companion but also a small design statement for a more beautiful city.
