LAB Bowl

The new KPM+ Edition of the LAB Bowls by artist Anna Haifisch—presented by SZ Magazin:
Frederick the Elder had two great loves: porcelain and dogs. His last words were for Superbe, his favorite dog, who remained faithfully by his deathbed. The multi-award-winning Leipzig-based artist and comic book illustrator Anna Haifisch has now combined Friedrich’s passions on the bowls of the LAB collection—as a humorous blend of passion and history.
Biche, Alcmène, Hasenfuß, Thisbe, Phillis, Arsione, and Superbe—Friedrich’s seven wind chimes now leap, play, and chase one another in delicate blue lines on a white background. With their pointed snouts and delicate form, it’s no coincidence that they resemble birds. After all, not only does artist Anna Haifisch prefer to focus on feathered motifs in her work, but Frederick , too, knew: “An idiot who, to this day, hasn’t realized that the wind chime isn’t a dog at all, but a four-legged bird.”
When working with porcelain (much like with her usual medium of paper), purity, whiteness, and hardness play a major role. “When an ink pen glides effortlessly and wetly across a smooth surface, there’s nothing more satisfying for me,” the artist sums up.
The glazed portion of the LAB Bowls provided the perfect surface for Haifisch: she applied her designs by hand using a pen and paint. In keeping with the artist’s vision, the decorations on the now-produced edition were applied by KPM’s master painters using a traditional hand-printing process, making them very durable and dishwasher-safe.
