Vase LAB KOLBENFORM, conical

Internationally acclaimed artist Marcel Dzama has designed an exclusive edition for the “ Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin ” in collaboration with Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin. With the “Blue Moon” vase, limited to 100 pieces, the Canadian artist combines traditional porcelain craftsmanship with contemporary art.
The Canadian artist brings his mystical, fairy-tale-like style of painting to the LAB Vase KOLBENFORM (conical) by KPM Berlin, while also paying homage to the early days of film. The vase’s central motif—a mysterious moon—is a tribute to Georges Méliès’ iconic 1902 film “A Trip to the Moon.” With this, Dzama builds an artistic bridge between fantasy, reality, and the world of dreams—a recurring theme in his work.
Dzama’s motifs were transferred to the vases and hand-printed by the master painters at KPM Berlin in the historic manufactory on the edge of the Tiergarten. To create the mystical “ blue ” effect on the base, the illustrations were masked off with stencils and the vase was spray-painted by hand.
The handcrafted, conical KOLBENFORM vase from the 2015 LAB series combines timeless elegance with modern multifunctionality. Particularly distinctive are the subtle contrast between the glossy-smooth and velvety-matte surfaces, as well as the clean, elegant lines that embody both timeless aesthetics and modern functionality.
