A Colorful Take on a Minimalist Icon: The Bauhaus Dessau will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025. To mark this milestone, Gisbert Pöppler has reimagined the HALLE vase with its fluted neck—the Bauhaus design classic by KPM Berlin—and created a trio featuring a playful, light color palette.
Designed by Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain in 1931 during the heyday of the Bauhaus, the HALLE vase with its fluted neck embodies the ceramic craftsmanship tradition of the Bauhaus era. Characteristic of the designer’s work are the vase’s clean lines, strict proportions, and the harmonious fusion of sphere and cone in its form. Its individual components are balanced in composition and became unmistakable design features of the Bauhaus era.
Gisbert Pöppler’s new color scheme for the “Pas de trois” edition transforms the perception of the vases: the austerity of the Bauhaus form gives way, and the vases take on a sense of lightness. On the outside, they are unified by a rich chestnut brown that rests evenly across the surface and lends the forms a sense of weight. When viewed from the inside, the vases reveal three distinct color dimensions: green, “ blue ,” and violet, which lend them a unique and playful touch. The vases are designed as a trio, yet they also possess radiance and vitality when displayed individually. The trio’s almost dance-like lightness is also reflected in the name “Pas de trois.”
The vases are limited to 33 pieces per color.
