The shoebill owes its name to the shape of its beak, which is not only exceptionally long but also particularly broad and deep. This uniqueness of the African swamp bird was immortalized in porcelain by Marek Lipowski at the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin in 1994. The plumage, painted in light blue tones, was faithfully reproduced by the painters at the Berlin manufactory. In addition to this version, the shoebill is also available in white.

Marek Lipowski was an employee at KPM from 1985 to 2019. In the manufactory, "valuable and beautiful things are created every day, and I am allowed to be involved in their creation process. For me, the manufactory is the most beautiful place to create," the sculptor reported in the 2nd issue of WEISS Magazine.
