The Antique Sugar Basket was produced in 1810 with rich gold engraving and a colorful insert for the Prussian Queen Luise, who was known as a great lover of classical antique art. With its separate insert, it was originally used to hold confectionery, hence its name, and the model for the goblet shape with bell-shaped walls, worked open in the style of a wickerwork basket, was created by the KPM model master Riese based on a design by the Prussian artist Luise.

The antique sugar basket was made in 1810 with rich gold engraving and a colorful insert for the Prussian Queen Luise, who was known as a great lover of classical antique art. With its separate insert, it was originally used to hold confectionery, hence its name.
The model for the goblet shape with bell-shaped walls, worked open in the style of a basket weave, was designed by KPM's master modeler Riese based on a design by Karl Frederick Schinkel. A year earlier, Schinkel had decorated the Berlin apartments of Prussia's most famous queen. In the course of the 19th century, he became the most important German architect of classicism.
With its 2272 individual hand-cut pieces, the Antique Sugar Basket is a showpiece of the classicist porcelain baskets from the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin.
