Germania foundation festival

Splendor and glory for Germania! 259 years of KPM were celebrated at the Berlin manufactory in September. But also: the return of a daughter who was thought lost.

The 120 guests who attended KPM's foundation celebration on Monday evening were clearly in awe. Not only the manufactory's birthday was celebrated, but above all the highlight of the KPM year 2022: the return of the porcelain painting, "Germania - Protectress of Art and Science", to Berlin. The 1057-piece mural arrived at the Berlin manufactory in August as a donation from the German American Heritage Institute. Before the work of art, which is in need of renovation, is now being refurbished by the painters, it was presented to a select audience by the KPM Foundation.

After Jörg Woltmann welcomed the guests, Professor Andress (the man who rediscovered the *Germania* and a representative of the GAHI) gave an engaging overview of the artwork’s history, which the guests were then able to explore in greater depth during private tours of the Alte Schlämmerei. “Simply a wonderful evening,” summarized Martina Hacker, managing director of the * KPM Berlin*.

And yet there was a second star on this evening alongside the almost 130-year-old Germania: Matteo, the 7-year-old son of Berlin auctioneer Kilian Jay von Seldeneck, assisted his father in the auction of selected porcelain treasures. When asked why he actually liked KPM, the young collector replied: "Because seven kings and emperors stood at its head. And Jörg Woltmann!"
