History

designer: Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain year: 1930 material: Porzellan

The HALLE vase series, created by Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain in 1930 during the heyday of the Bauhaus, embodies the tradition of ceramic craftsmanship of the Bauhaus era. Characteristic of the designer’s early work are its clean lines, strict proportions, and the harmonious fusion of spheres and cones in the vase’s form. Its individual components are balanced in composition and became unmistakable design features of the Bauhaus era. Photo: © Archive of Burg Giebichenstein – University of Art and Design Halle

Product description

With the strictly limited-edition “Blue-Green Crystal Glaze” collection, the Royal Porcelain Manufactory brings a time-honored glazing technique into the present. In the manufactory’s in-house laboratory, Dr. Hamid Zadeh, head of the KPM laboratory and the body factory, has reimagined the art of crystal glazes—giving the iconic Krukenform, Halle , and Zwiebelform vases a unique luster. Through an elaborate development process, a lead-free glaze was created that builds on the foundations of the manufactory’s crystal glaze from 1898.

"Every glaze is a little experiment—it depends on chance, temperature, and time," explains Dr. Zadeh. The liquid glaze is applied by hand using a finely tuned spraying process. Each piece develops a unique surface texture during application – no two objects are alike. The vases are then fired at around 1,300 degrees Celsius, and each piece becomes a dazzling one-of-a-kind item.

The vases, which sparkle in an iridescent blue-green color, combine contemporary materials research with centuries-old craftsmanship, making them unique collector's items and modern design objects.

The " Halle Edition" blue-green crystal-glazed vase is limited to 30 pieces.
