History

designer: Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain year: 1930 material: Porzellan

The HALLE vase group, created by Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain in 1930 during the Bauhaus's heyday, represents the ceramic craftsmanship tradition of the Bauhaus years. Characteristic of the designer's early work are its clear lines, strict proportions, and the harmonious fusion of sphere and cone in the shape of the vase. Its individual components are balanced and have become unmistakable design features of the Bauhaus era. Photo: © Archiv Burg Giebichenstein – Kunsthochschule Halle

Product description

With its strictly limited edition "Crystal Glaze Blue-Green," Royal Porcelain Manufactory brings a traditional glazing technique into the present day. In the manufactory's in-house laboratory, Dr. Hamid Zadeh, head of the KPM laboratory and the mass factory, has redeveloped the art of crystal glazes – giving the iconic Krukenform, Halle , and Zwiebelform vases a unique shine. An elaborate development process resulted in a lead-free glaze that builds on the foundations of the manufactory's crystal glaze from 1898.

"Every glaze is a little experiment—it depends on chance, temperature, and time," explains Dr. Zadeh. The liquid glaze is applied by hand using a finely tuned spraying process. Each piece develops a unique surface texture during application – no two objects are alike. The vases are then fired at around 1,300 degrees Celsius, and each piece becomes a dazzling one-of-a-kind item.

The vases, which sparkle in an iridescent blue-green color, combine contemporary materials research with centuries-old craftsmanship, making them unique collector's items and modern design objects.

The Vase Halle Edition Crystal Glaze Blue-Green is limited to 30 pieces.
