KURLAND BLANC NOUVEAU can be experienced with your eyes closed and, whether in pure white or with a colored finish, offers a sensual delight. In 2013, to mark its 250th anniversary, the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin created this collection, bringing the iconic KURLAND relief to life in a new way: To bring out the relief to the highest degree of perfection, the glaze is carefully removed using a fine bristle brush. The smooth firing process highlights the contrast between matte “ Biscuit ” and high-gloss glazed porcelain, creating a unique aesthetic.
PASTEL BACKGROUND
The contrast between glossy glazed porcelain surfaces and matt biscuit porcelain reliefs creates a visually and haptically rich experience. The contrasting textures of smoothness and velvety in the delicate variations of the BLANC NOUVEAU PASTELL range, from soft blue to apricot, are all the more appealing.
THOMAS WENZEL
Thomas Wenzel heads the artistic development department at KPM Berlin. In addition to his work as a designer, innovative decor and manufacturing techniques that address the challenges of modern tableware culture form an important focus of his work. The KURLAND BLANC NOUVEAU collection, introduced in 2013 to mark the manufactory’s 250th anniversary, is also the result of Wenzel’s development work. Wenzel’s more recent designs include, in addition to the current LAB series, the multi-award-winning KPM coffee filter and the KURLAND To-go cup.
