History - Kurland
Client: Peter von Biron, Duke of Kurland
Year: 1790
Commissioned by Peter von Biron, Duke of Kurland, a series in strict classicist form was created in Berlin around 1790 in line with the new aesthetic, which was to become the icon of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin: KURLAND. Its design pays homage to the ideals and forms of the ancient world. Objectivity, austerity, and symmetry combine to create a timeless form—arguably the most significant porcelain collection of the classical period.
