EDITION WEST BERLIN
KPM Berlin presents “Westberlin,” a collaboration between artist Frederick Liechtenstein and KPM Berlin , owned by Jörg Woltmann. The limited edition pays homage to Enzo Mari’s iconic BERLIN collection, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026, while also evoking the spirit and cultural identity of historic West Berlin.
The collaboration was inspired by Frederick ’s song “Westberlin,” whose atmospheric portrayal of a defining era in the city’s history evoked personal memories for Jörg Woltmann. Their shared fascination with the spirit of that time gave rise to the idea of a collection that bridges history, the present, and design.
Enzo Mari developed the BERLIN collection in 1996 in collaboration with the designers at KPM Berlin. For three decades, the series has been synonymous with a radically minimalist, timelessly precise design language. Tradition and innovation, classic design and contemporary accents come together to create a design that—much like the city whose name it bears—leaves room for new interpretations.
KPM Berlin-Owner Jörg Woltmann: “I associate old West Berlin with an exciting youth spent on a sort of isolated island that nevertheless gave me a sense of great freedom. That time shaped me and made me the person I am today—in a city I love. It has given me great joy to express this special attitude toward life in a limited edition, to reminisce, and to preserve it in this way, at least in part.”
THE FEELING OF A SPECIAL TIME
Jörg Woltmann and Frederick Liechtenstein associate historic West Berlin with special memories of the city’s culture, gastronomy, and unique sense of freedom. Through this collaborative edition, they translate these experiences into a contemporary perspective on Berlin and its identity. Their friendship and their connection to the special nights and places of that era find the perfect setting in the legendary Paris Bar—a place that, like almost no other, embodies the spirit and atmosphere of old West Berlin.
The collection includes selected pieces for everyday use as well as for stylish table settings: dinner plates, dessert plates, oval platters, and an espresso cup—reimagined without a handle—featuring the “ saucer.” Each piece follows the clean design language of the BERLIN series while also bearing the distinctive signature of the new collection. “Westberlin”—the perfect symbiosis of design history and contemporary culture.
The BERLIN Edition Westberlin includes an espresso cup—available individually or as a set of two—a set of plates, and a small oval “ platter.” All products are part of a limited edition of 300 pieces and are available at KPM stores throughout Germany as well as in the KPM Berlin online store.
