The black sheep
The MONDSCHAF was first made by Ludwig Gies (1887-1966), one of the most important German sculptors of the 20th century, in 1926. It is one of several porcelain sculptures that Gies created during his creative period for the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (1919-1960s). The mystical animal sculpture is his free expressionist interpretation of Christian Morgenstern's 1905 poem of the same name. On the occasion of the poet's 150th birthday, the lyrical animal portrait is being revitalised in an avant-garde manner by the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin in an exclusive black edition limited to 15 pieces. The MONDSCHAF in the anniversary edition "The Black Sheep" is exclusively limited to 15 pieces and the anniversary year 2021.
